"But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel." — Psalm 22:3 (NKJV)
There was once a farmer who faced one of the hardest years of his life. A long drought had dried up his fields. His neighbors complained every day, saying, "There is no hope." But every morning, the farmer walked through his empty field singing hymns of praise to God. People laughed at him and asked, "Why are you praising when your land is dry?" He smiled and replied, "I do not praise because my field is full. I praise because my God is faithful."
A few weeks later, unexpected rains came. His crops recovered, and his harvest became one of the best in the village. When asked the secret of his peace, he answered, "Praise kept my heart close to God before the miracle ever came."
This story reminds us that praise is not only a response to victory—it is often the pathway to victory.
Many believers praise God only after receiving blessings. However, the Bible teaches us to praise Him willingly, joyfully, and continually. Voluntary praise is an act of love. It tells the Lord, "I delight in Your presence more than in Your gifts."
God never forces us to praise Him. Instead, He invites us to come near with thankful hearts. A loving child does not visit a father only when he needs something. He enjoys spending time with his father simply because of love. In the same way, God delights when we come into His presence just to worship Him.
Psalm 100:4 says,
"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."
Praise is the doorway into God's presence.
We also draw near to the Lord by reading His Word and spending time in prayer. These three spiritual habits work together:
Praise fills our hearts with joy.
God's Word fills our minds with truth.
Prayer fills our lives with fellowship.
James 4:8 promises,
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
When we praise, read the Scriptures, and pray daily, we are showing the Lord that we love being with Him. Our relationship becomes deeper and stronger.
The Bible says in Psalm 22:3,
"You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel."
God inhabits the praises of His people. This means His presence is revealed where sincere praise rises from believing hearts. Praise pleases the Lord because it honors Him above our circumstances.
We see a beautiful example in Acts 16. Paul and Silas had been beaten, chained, and thrown into prison. Instead of complaining, they prayed and sang praises to God at midnight. Suddenly, an earthquake shook the prison, the doors opened, and every chain fell off. Their praise invited God's mighty intervention.
Praise changed the atmosphere before it changed their situation.
Another wonderful example is King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. A vast army came against Judah. Instead of placing soldiers at the front, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to praise the beauty of God's holiness. As they praised, God set ambushes against their enemies, and Judah won the battle without fighting.
Praise brought victory because God fought for His people.
Sometimes our greatest battles are not against people but against fear, worry, discouragement, and disappointment. Praise lifts our eyes from the problem to the greatness of God. It reminds us that God is still in control.
Contentment also grows through praise. A thankful heart is a contented heart. When we praise God for what we already have, we stop comparing ourselves with others. We begin to recognize His daily faithfulness, His mercy, His protection, and His unfailing love.
The apostle Paul learned this secret. He wrote in Philippians 4:11,
"For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content."
His contentment was rooted in Christ, not in his circumstances.
Today, choose to praise God voluntarily. Don't wait until every problem disappears. Praise Him because He is worthy. Praise Him because He is good. Praise Him because He loves you with an everlasting love.
Spend time every day in His presence:
Begin with thanksgiving.
Worship Him with songs of praise.
Read His Word carefully.
Speak with Him in prayer.
Rest quietly in His presence.
As you continue this daily habit, your faith will grow, your heart will be filled with peace, and you will experience the joy of walking closely with the Lord.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being worthy of all praise. Teach me to praise You willingly, not only when life is easy but also during difficult times. Help me to love Your presence more than Your blessings. Draw me closer as I praise, read Your Word, and pray each day. Fill my heart with contentment, strengthen my faith, and give me victory over every fear and every challenge. May my life bring joy to Your heart and glory to Your holy name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
